Japan's 23 enterprises betting on all solid-state batteries jointly research and development

Japan's new energy industry technology comprehensive development agency recently announced that some enterprises and academic institutions in the country will jointly research and develop the next generation of all solid-state lithium batteries for electric vehicles in the next five years, striving to be applied to the new energy automobile industry as soon as possible

the project is expected to have a total investment of 10billion yen (about 580million yuan). 23 automobile, battery and material enterprises such as Toyota, Honda, Nissan and Panasonic, as well as 15 academic institutions such as Kyoto University and Japan Institute of physics and chemistry, will participate in the research. It is planned to master all solid-state battery related technologies by 2022

according to Japan's new energy industry technology comprehensive development agency, the next generation of vehicles (including clean diesel vehicles, hybrid electric vehicles, electric vehicles, etc.) is the future development direction of the global automotive industry. Many Japanese manufacturers have launched large-scale sales plans for pure electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles, and more efficient vehicle batteries have attracted much attention

there is no gas or liquid in the structure of all solid-state lithium batteries. All materials are stored in solid state. Domestic medical devices are expected to usher in an explosion. Their high density, high safety and other properties make them more advantageous than traditional liquid batteries and have broad application prospects in the field of new energy vehicles. Previously, the action plan for promoting the development of automotive power battery industry issued by the Ministry of industry and information technology and other four ministries and commissions clearly proposed to increase investment in research and development of new power lithium battery systems with hardness, strength and rigidity similar to metals, including new batteries such as solid-state batteries

one of the purposes of the Japanese government to increase the research and development of all solid state batteries is to regain the dominant market position. In the field of automotive batteries, Japanese enterprises took the lead, accounting for 70% of the global market share in 2013. However, the market share of Chinese enterprises, which was only 3% in 2013, has expanded to 26% by 2016, while that of Japanese enterprises has decreased to 41%. Starting from May this year, the Ministry of economy, industry and trade of Japan will invest 1.6 billion yen (about 93.49 million yuan) in the Technology Research Association - lithium battery materials evaluation and Research Center (libtec)

according to the technical goals set in made in China 2025, the energy density of lithium batteries will reach 300wh/kg in 2020, 400wh/kg in 2025 and 500wh/kg in 2030. Obviously, the medium and long-term development of the new energy automobile industry needs new technical reserves, and the all solid-state lithium battery is expected to become the leading technical route of the next generation of vehicle power battery
